First and foremost, it’s important for me to say that this book had a good message about escaping domestic violence.
That being said, there’s really nothing else redeeming about this book. I’ve now read five of Colleen Hoover’s books and the only two I remotely liked were Heart Bones and Verity. I couldn’t stand Ugly Love or Layla, and It Ends With Us was just as lame.
The main character was, predictably, unlikeable. The writing was meh at best. In a different author’s hand, this book could have been beautiful. It could have told a powerful and emotional story. Instead I spent the first half cringing through the writing, the names, the everything. The second half I was paying more attention because of the plot, but I never cared for Lily, Ryle, Atlas, whoever else was in this book full of stupid ass names.
I wanted Lily to get out of her abusive relationship, and I was glad she did. But there are MUCH better books out there on the topic of domestic violence, and I wish I’d read one of those instead.
I do not recommend It Ends With Us.
